Melanie has deep experience in the application of privacy laws, having worked in the field since 2002, across both regulatory and advisory capacities.

A highly experienced privacy professional, Melanie has expertise in leading Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) for complex, multi-jurisdictional projects, such as a project to develop a real-time national information-sharing system for child protection, and data linkage and analytics projects in the health and disability sectors. Mel’s experience in leading PIAs has spanned local and international jurisdictions: she was instrumental in the development of a privacy management framework for Queensland’s Unify program; led privacy governance efforts at the (former) Victorian Department of Justice and Regulation; and was seconded to Rio Tinto’s Data Privacy Team and supported PIAs and privacy advisories across diverse operations in countries like Australia, Canada, France, and Kazakhstan.

Melanie is a Fellow of Information Privacy (FIP) and holds multiple certifications from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
